淡いグリーンに色づいた大ぶりの吹きガラスボトル。この淡いグリーンの発色は、当時のガラス原料に含まれていた微量の酸化鉄によるもので、現在のような精製されたソーダ石灰ガラスが普及する以前は、透明なガラスにもこうした自然な色味が残るのが一般的でした。「デミジョン」と呼ばれるこの大型の瓶は、ワインや油、水などの液体を貯蔵・運搬するための実用容器として、ヨーロッパ各地の家庭や商店で使われていました。 口部の成形跡と底のポンティル痕に、手吹きならではの表情が残ります。水差しとして使われていたと考えられます。ドイツ、19世紀。

A large, pale green mold-blown glass bottle. This pale green tint comes from trace iron oxide naturally present in the glass raw materials of the period; before the refined soda-lime glass used today became common, even glass intended to be clear typically retained this kind of natural color. A bottle of this large-capacity type, known as a "demijohn," served as practical storage for wine, oil, or water in households and shops across Europe. The tooling marks at the mouth and the pontil mark on the base carry the character unique to hand-blown glass.It's thought to have been used as a water jug. Germany, 19th century.
