A candle wick trimmer, or snuffer, forged from a single piece of iron. A small pin at one blade's tip holds the wick in place, while a small box-form tray on the other catches the trimmed length as the scissors close, cutting the wick and containing the smoldering ash in a single motion so it doesn't fall into the melted wax. Before self-trimming candle wicks became common from the mid-19th century onward, a tool like this was a household essential for keeping a candle's flame even and free of soot.
